The All Blacks End of Season Rugby Tour
Autumn 2009
The Digital Space and Observe technical crew have had a busy few weeks, in particular with their work on the All Blacks End of Season Rugby Tour. The crew covered the prestigious international matches in Cardiff (Wales v New Zealand), Milan (Italy v New Zealand), Twickenham (England v New Zealand), Marseille (France v New Zealand) and finally in Twickenham again for Barbarians v New Zealand.
Digital Space and Observe provided complete presentation facilities and delivered a 1080i Signal to its New Zealand Based Broadcast client .The satellite link from each venue was delivered at 33 mbit mpeg2 Video insuring the Hd quality was retained to the viewers on the far side of the World. The Digital Space Megalink1 is a 4 camera HD Outside Broadcast Unit with a 2.4m dish. It is ideal as an "add on" to a host broadcaster production. It takes up less space than the 2 vehicles needed for an OB and a separate satellite uplink and is also less expensive. Megalink1 has sufficient RF power for comfortable HD uplinks throughout Europe. The DVBS2 HD 8PSK MPEG encoders are ideal for satellite transmission of HD pictures.
As well as the All-Blacks games the team also covered a number of sporting events including the Ireland v France International Soccer World Cup play off at Croke Park, all of Ireland's Autumn Series of Rugby Internationals at Croke Park and the RDS ( Australia, South Africa and Fiji), and HD and Dolby 5.1 transmission of World Championship Darts at Citywest.

Glentoran v Maccabi Haifa | Bohemians v Salzburg
July 22nd 2009
Digital Space were operating on the European stage this week. We successfully uplinked 2 Champions League qualifiers from Ireland.
Working with Outside Broadcast company Observe, we uplinked the match coverage of both Glentoran v Maccabi Haifa and Bohemians v Salzburg and these pictures were shown live on TV screens in Israel (Channel 10 Tel Aviv) and Austria (ORF -Osterreichischer Rundfunk).
An SDI feed with embedded audio was linked from the OB unit to the satellite uplink.
This feed was then transmitted to the newly launched Eutelsat W2A satellite (located at 10 degrees East) and received in Tel Aviv and Salzburg respectively for onward distribution locally.
We look forward to many more European adventures in the future.

Shamrock Rovers V Real Madrid
July 20th 2009
Tallaght Stadium, Dublin
Digital Space provide HD and Dolby 5.1 satellite delivery for the prestigious Real Madrid football team's visit to Tallaght in Dublin on Monday 20th July. Shamrock Rovers heroics were successfully beamed to broadcasters around the world by Digital Space's number one HD truck. Two HD streams with embedded Dolby 5.1 audio were sent to the satellite using MPEG2 HD encoders with built in 8PSK and DVBS2 modulation.
Dolby DM100 metering was used to check the integrity of the Dolby signal on the link and incoming from the Outside Broadcast unit. This satellite uplink successfully coped with Ronaldo’s trickery, and the challenges of HD and Dolby, and we look forward to many more visits to the new home of Shamrock Rovers.
